A needle roller and cage assembly is a compact, self-contained rolling bearing in which cylindrical needle rollers are held inside a retention cage instead of being mounted on bearing rings. Because the assembly uses no inner ring and no outer ring, it fits into a noticeably smaller radial envelope than a conventional bearing of comparable capacity. The cage holds the rollers at uniform spacing and keeps the whole assembly intact as one piece, so it can be mounted directly against the shaft and housing surfaces of the host component.
